Specialist Registration in Ireland
The Two Routes
CSCST — Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training. Available only to doctors who completed the formal Irish Higher Specialist Training programme.
Evaluation of Existing Training and Experience — the internationally trained specialist's route. Your training and experience are assessed by the relevant Irish postgraduate training body — RCPI, RCSI, the ICGP, the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, JFICMI and others — against that specialty's approved training curriculum.
No published processing timeframe exists for either route.
Certificate of Experience & Higher Qualifications
Some doctors are exempt from PRES on the basis of a recognised internship the Council considers equivalent to the Irish internship. A list of recognised jurisdictions exists — United Kingdom (Foundation Year 1), Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan (post-2008), Sudan, South Africa (post-2006) — but it comes from a training body's document rather than the Council's own current page, so it may be superseded. Recognition remains case-specific.
