OEGD — General Licensing Exam
The Omani Examination for General Dentistry (OEGD) is the qualifying exam for internationally trained general dentists seeking to practise in Oman. It is administered by the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), with the written component delivered at Pearson VUE centres. A viva (oral examination) follows the written exam for candidates who pass. Final licensure is granted by the Ministry of Health.
Pathway Snapshot
The OEGD is a multi-step process: DataFlow Primary Source Verification, OMSB credentialing review, a computer-based MCQ exam at Pearson VUE, and a viva. After passing all components and completing MOH licensing steps, the candidate is eligible to practise in Oman.
Complete Journey: Dental Graduation → DataFlow PSV → OMSB Credentialing → Pearson VUE Written Exam → Viva (Oral Exam) → MOH Licence Issuance → Practise in Oman.
Eligibility
A recognised primary dental qualification (BDS or equivalent) from an OMSB-recognised institution. Clinical experience requirements appear to be tiered: a minimum of 4 years' experience is cited by multiple sources for general exam eligibility, while full independent General Dentist licensure may require up to 10 years of experience post-internship. This tiered structure is not officially confirmed by OMSB and should be verified directly with the licensing authority. A Good Standing Certificate from the candidate's home dental council is required, along with document attestation for use in Oman.
No universal IELTS/OET score requirement has been confirmed for OEGD; the exam is conducted in English. Employer sponsorship is not explicitly required to sit the exam, but may be necessary for the final licence issuance — confirm with MOH.
DataFlow & Credentialing
OMSB requires Primary Source Verification through DataFlow before eligibility can be assessed. Processing typically takes up to 25 working days. After PSV, OMSB reviews your credentials through its own PQR process (estimated 10–15 days, commercially reported). On approval, you receive authorisation to book the Pearson VUE written exam.

- Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry: approximately 12% each (~36% combined)
- Special Care Dentistry, Orthodontics: approximately 20% combined

What we offer
OEGD question bank covering the full general dentistry domain set, mapped to candidate-reported content areas, with flashcards, self-assessments, trained AI companion, mentorship, a dental library, study groups, and more, all offered together.
Start OEGD Prep →Viva (Oral Exam)
Candidates who pass the written exam must complete a viva (oral examination), typically held monthly at OMSB headquarters in Muscat. Duration is approximately 15–30 minutes (candidate-reported). The viva assesses clinical reasoning, communication, and readiness for independent practice in the Omani healthcare context.
Retake Rules
There is currently no maximum number of attempts for the OEGD written exam, per Pearson VUE's official OMSB page. This replaces the earlier 3-attempts-per-year cap that applied under the previous Prometric delivery. Candidates may retake the exam in accordance with OMSB's applicable policies.
How to Book Your Exam
DataFlow PSV → OMSB Credentialing → Pearson VUE. Complete Primary Source Verification through DataFlow (allow up to 25 working days). Submit your credentials for OMSB review; on approval, you will receive authorisation to schedule the written exam. Book your exam through Pearson VUE (pearsonvue.com/omsb) at an approved test centre. On passing the written exam, OMSB will schedule your viva.
After OEGD
Passing both the written exam and viva does not automatically grant a licence. The Ministry of Health issues the final practice licence upon completion of all OMSB and MOH requirements, which may include employer sponsorship, additional documentation, and payment of licensing fees.
Fees
The written exam fee is estimated from cross-GCC commercial sources and has not been independently verified against an official OMSB or Pearson VUE fee schedule. DataFlow costs vary. Always confirm exact fees through the OMSB and MOH portals before payment.
All figures are approximate and based on 2026 public information. Always confirm exact fees on the official portals before payment.
