OPRA — Overseas Pharmacist Readiness Assessment
The Overseas Pharmacist Readiness Assessment (OPRA) is the Australian Pharmacy Council’s computer-based knowledge exam for most internationally qualified pharmacists. It replaced the former KAPS exam for new candidates. A pass is used for skilled-migration skills assessment and as a step toward Pharmacy Board of Australia registration via intern training — it is not itself a licence to practise.
Pathway Snapshot
Create an APC candidate account, apply for OPRA (and skills assessment if you need it for migration), sit the computer-based exam, then complete intern/supervised practice and Board registration steps through AHPRA.
Complete Journey: Overseas pharmacy degree → APC skills assessment / OPRA eligibility → OPRA exam → Intern training & written/oral assessments → AHPRA general registration.
Eligibility
APC sets which qualifications can sit OPRA. You typically need a completed pharmacy degree that APC will assess, identity documents, and any English evidence APC or the Board currently requires for your stream.
If you previously sat KAPS, APC publishes transitional rules. Do not assume a historical KAPS pass automatically converts — read the current APC notice.
OPRA Exam Details
OPRA is a computer-based multiple-choice examination covering biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice at the standard APC defines for overseas pharmacists. Delivery is through APC’s appointed vendor (confirm the current provider and test-centre network).
APC publishes the blueprint, exam length, pass standard, and candidate rules. Results are released to your APC account and, where relevant, used in a skills-assessment outcome.
What we offer
MCIQ will open an OPRA-style bank mapped to the APC overseas pharmacist blueprint, including calculations and Australian practice context. Register to be notified when prep is available.

Apply and pay through APC, then schedule a seat in an open window. Identification must match your APC profile. Accommodations follow APC’s published process.
After OPRA
A pass supports skills assessment and eligibility to proceed toward intern training and Board registration. You still need supervised practice, intern assessments, and AHPRA registration. Immigration visas are a Department of Home Affairs process, not an APC licence.
