Jordanian Board — Gastroenterology
Gastroenterology (أمراض الجهاز الهضمي والكبد) is a Jordanian Board subspecialty of Internal Medicine. Entry requires the Jordan Medical Council certificate in Internal Medicine or its equivalent.
Training duration: 3 years. Confirmed on the Jordan Medical Council’s published schedule of approved training durations: " شهادة المجلس الطبي في الامراض الداخلية وبعدها التدرب لمدة ثلاث سنوات في امراض الجهاز الهضمي".
The examination structure, attempts, validity and fees on the Application Support page apply identically across specialties: the JMC fee schedule does not differentiate by specialty, only by route and nationality.
Examination Structure
As a subspecialty, Gastroenterology has no Part 1. The Council’s examination timetables list it as a single subspecialty examination, held under the Council’s 2025 examination instructions:
| Component | Format | Duration | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|---|
| Written | 100 single-best-answer MCQs | 2.5 hours | 60% |
| OSCE | Clinical stations | Not published | 60% |
Final result: 60% written plus 40% OSCE, each component independently at 60% or above. Attempts: 5, then one year of additional training, then 3 more, then one further year of additional training, then 2 more, to a maximum of 10.
Sittings: Twice yearly. Exact dates are announced by the Jordan Medical Council per round. Check with the regulatory body for the current schedule.
Direct Entry for Foreign-Trained Gastroenterologists
A foreign subspecialty certificate earned through a residency programme allows direct entry to the subspecialty examination. A certificate earned through a fellowship also requires the main-specialty certificate.
Hepatology and Transplant Hepatology
Not published. The Council lists no separate Hepatology or Transplant Hepatology subspecialty.
