OMSB — Obstetrics & Gynaecology

O&G specialists qualify through Track A by passing the specialist written exam (Pearson VUE, approximately 60–65% pass mark) and the viva in Muscat, which includes a dedicated surgical/procedural skills station. The OMSB O&G residency typically lasts 5 years (confirm current duration with OMSB), with Part 1 at the end of R2 and a final Part 2 combining written and clinical exams at the end of R5.

Complete Journey (Track A): Medical Graduation → DataFlow PSV → O&G Written Exam (Pearson VUE) → Viva (Muscat) → MOH License → Specialist Practice.

Complete Journey (Track B): Medical Graduation → OMSB Selection Exam → Hakeem Application → Residency → Part 1 (R2) → Part 2 Final Written + Clinical (R5) → OMSB Certification → Consultant Practice.

Track A — Specialist Classification

Written Exam (Pearson VUE): 100–150 clinical vignette MCQs covering high-risk obstetrics, antenatal and intrapartum management, general gynecology, gynecologic oncology, and emergency obstetrical care. Pass mark: approximately 60–65% (OMSB does not publish a fixed official pass mark).

Viva (Muscat): Multiple structured clinical stations including a dedicated surgical/procedural skills and complications station. Approximately 10–15 minutes per station. Exact station count is not officially published.

Track B — OMSB Residency

The OMSB Obstetrics & Gynaecology residency typically lasts 5 years (R1–R5) — confirm current duration directly with OMSB.

  • OMSB Part 1: Written MCQ taken at the end of R2. Maximum 3 attempts (confirmed by OMSB Training Bylaws). The passing standard is 70%, with a permitted floor of 65% if the cohort pass rate falls short.
  • OMSB Part 2 (Final): Final Written plus Clinical Exam at the end of R5. Maximum 4 attempts within 5 years of completing residency; after exhausting all attempts, mandatory one-year supplementary training is required (per OMSB Training Bylaws). The passing standard is 70%, with a permitted floor of 65%.

OMSB Part 1 first attempt is sponsored. Retakes and Part 2 are resident-sponsored at approximately 50–100 OMR per component.
