OEGP — General Practitioner Licensing Exam

This is the Occupational Classification route, for doctors who already hold their qualifications and want to work in Oman as a GP or in their existing specialty. It is open to doctors applying from anywhere. It involves DataFlow verification, a written Pearson VUE examination, and a face-to-face viva in Muscat.

Attempts at the MOH classification interview: the initial attempt plus 2 more — three in total.

A Good Standing Certificate issued within the last 6 months is required.

Credential Verification

Primary Source Verification is submitted online through DataFlow, not to OMSB directly.

OMSB publishes the standard processing time as 35 working days. DataFlow's own promotional page claims 25 working days for the same service. Where the regulator and the vendor disagree, plan to the regulator's longer figure.

The fee depends on how many documents you submit and is payable by credit card only. OMSB publishes no fixed verification fee.

The specialty booklets for Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Family Medicine are not published in a readable form. Only the General Practitioner booklet is available.

The OEGP's 150-question, three-hour, 65% specification applies to the General Practitioner examination. OMSB has not stated that it carries across to the specialist examinations.

Language. OMSB publishes no statement on an English proficiency requirement, either way.

The Viva

The face-to-face viva in Muscat is the second stage of classification, and where most first-time candidates lose marks.

OMSB does not publish a station count or timing for the specialist viva. The one official OMSB document on interviews describes a panel interview assessing intelligence and knowledge, enthusiasm, maturity and insight, and personality, with outcomes of Recommended, Not Recommended or Waiting List — and it appears to describe residency selection rather than the classification viva.

MCI Academy preparation framework — focus areas, not an official syllabus: complex clinical case scenario and management; acute emergency decision-making; diagnostic data and imaging interpretation; surgical and procedural skills and complications; communication, professional ethics and informed consent; and the Oman healthcare system and practice guidelines.
