Oman for Internal Medicine Specialists

OMSB — Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine specialists can qualify through Track A — the OMSB Occupational Classification route — by passing the specialist written exam at Pearson VUE (100–150 MCQs, approximately 60–65% pass mark) and the viva in Muscat. For doctors pursuing OMSB residency, the Internal Medicine program typically lasts 4 years (confirm current duration with OMSB), with OMSB Part 1 at the end of R2 and the final Part 2 examination at the end of R4.

Pathway Snapshot

Track A specialists complete DataFlow verification, the Pearson VUE written exam, and the Muscat viva. OMSB residents complete the program with annual exams, Part 1, and a final Part 2 written and clinical assessment.

Complete Journey (Track A): Medical Graduation → DataFlow PSV → Internal Medicine Written Exam (Pearson VUE) → Viva (Muscat) → MOH License → Specialist Practice.

Complete Journey (Track B): Medical Graduation → OMSB Selection Exam → Hakeem Application → Residency → Part 1 (R2) → Part 2 Final Written + Clinical (R4) → OMSB Certification → Consultant Practice.

Track A — Specialist Classification

Written Exam (Pearson VUE): 100–150 clinical vignette MCQs covering adult cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, infectious diseases, hematology/oncology, and acute emergency medicine. Pass mark: approximately 60–65% (OMSB does not publish a fixed official pass mark). Score above 70% grants 3 viva attempts; 60%–70% grants 2 attempts.

Viva (Muscat): Multiple structured clinical stations, approximately 10–15 minutes each, covering complex case management, acute emergency decision-making, diagnostic data interpretation, communication and ethics, and Oman healthcare system guidelines. Exact station count is not officially published; prep sources commonly describe a 6-station format.

  • OMSB Part 1: Written MCQ taken at the end of R2. Maximum 3 attempts (confirmed by OMSB Training Bylaws). The passing standard is 70%, with a permitted floor of 65% if the cohort pass rate falls short.
  • OMSB Part 2 (Final): Written exam plus clinical examination at the end of R4. Residents have a maximum of 4 attempts at the Part II Specialty exam within 5 years of completing residency; after exhausting all attempts, mandatory one-year supplementary training is required before further attempts are permitted (per OMSB Training Bylaws).
