MRCS — Surgery

The United Kingdom for Surgeons. The MRCS is an intercollegiate examination awarded jointly by the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Ireland.

It is the prerequisite for entry into Higher Specialty Training (ST3+) in all surgical specialties in the UK and serves as a globally recognised qualification for surgical competence.

Pathway Snapshot

A two-part examination testing applied basic sciences and principles of surgery in general (Part A, written), followed by a practical OSCE assessing clinical, communication, anatomical, and procedural skills (Part B). Passing both awards the MRCS Diploma.

Complete Journey: Medical Graduation → MRCS Part A (Written) → MRCS Part B (OSCE) → MRCS Diploma → Higher Surgical Training (ST3+) → CCT → Consultant Surgeon.
