Canada for Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
The RCPSC certification pathway for Obstetrics and Gynaecology mirrors the surgical model: trainees complete the Surgical Foundations examination early in residency, followed by a final two-part specialty assessment — a written paper and an applied component (SOE/OSCE) — in the final year. International O&G specialists enter via the PER route with a 5-year training requirement.
Pathway Snapshot
After PER credential evaluation, you sit the Surgical Foundations written exam, then the final Certification Examination. The final exam tests obstetric and gynaecological knowledge through MCQs, SAQs, and structured oral stations covering clinical, surgical, and emergency scenarios.
Complete Journey: Medical Graduation → PER Application & Credential Evaluation → Eligibility Letter → Surgical Foundations Examination → RCPSC Certification Examination in O&G (Written + Applied) → Supervised Practice → Full Certification → Independent Specialist Practice.
