Qatar for Internal Medicine Specialists

DHP — Internal Medicine

The Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) under the Ministry of Public Health is the licensing authority for specialist classification in Qatar. Internationally trained internal medicine specialists qualify through the DHP Specialist Prometric Examination — a 150-MCQ computer-based test — combined with mandatory DataFlow Primary Source Verification and credential evaluation.

Pathway Snapshot

Submit your credentials through the DHP digital portal, complete DataFlow verification, then sit the Prometric-based specialist exam. A pass at 65% leads to specialist classification and licensure. For those in Qatar-based residency, the Qatari Board of Medical Specializations (QBMS) offers a structured training pathway with Part 1 and final examinations.

Complete Journey (Specialist Route): Medical Graduation → DHP Portal & DataFlow PSV → DHP Internal Medicine Specialist Exam → Specialist Classification → Practice in Qatar.

Complete Journey (QBMS): Medical Graduation → QBMS Residency → Part 1 → Final Written + Final Clinical → QBMS Certification → Consultant Practice.

DHP Specialist Route Overview

Internationally trained specialists must complete Primary Source Verification (PSV) via DataFlow Group before licensure — this is mandatory for every applicant. Postgraduate qualification requirements include a formal specialty degree and a minimum of 2 to 3 years of continuous post-specialty clinical experience, depending on the country and tier of qualification. A Good Standing Certificate issued within the last 6 months by your current licensing authority is also required.

Attempts: Applicants can sit for the qualifying exam for 5 consecutive times, whatever the gap between each attempt. (Source: Official DHP Qualifying Examination Page, 2026. This policy supersedes previous regulations, including QCHP Circular No. 23/2015.)
