KIMS — Family Medicine
No Separate Licensing Exam
The official Ministry of Health and Prometric blueprint contains no standalone Family Medicine specialist examination, while listing six other specialties by name. Internationally trained Family Medicine specialists not entering the KIMS residency should contact the Ministry of Health directly.
The KIMS Family Medicine Residency
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Programme | 5 years — grew from four years at its 2001 start to five from 2010 |
| RCGP accreditation | Since 2005, for the MRCGP(Int) examination |
| Entrance exam | None — admission is by application documents and interview assessing communication, enthusiasm and commitment |
| Eligibility | MBBS or equivalent · government-employed · internship completed by 30 September of the application year · not already on scholarship or in another residency |
Examination Structure
| Stage | Structure |
|---|---|
| Part 1 — end of Year 2 | MCQ plus OSCE |
| Final — end of Year 5 | Three parts: AKT (Applied Knowledge Test), Written examination, and the Specialist/Senior Clinical examination |
The final stage is three distinct assessments, not two. The AKT is a separate knowledge test from the written paper.
MRCGP(Int)
The Kuwait Board of Family Medicine is RCGP-accredited to the MRCGP[INT] standard. Successful candidates meeting the applicable requirements may obtain the MRCGP(Int) qualification — a separate credential awarded by the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK), not a KIMS certificate.
What we offer
